Old Harveians Annual Dinner….

The Annual Dinner was another huge success. Around 100 old boys and members of staff, good company and good food in the familiar surroundings of the school hall. The 1988 leavers had a big reunion to celebrate 30 years since they left the Harvey with two of their group flying over from the US especially for the evening. Our thanks as always to Phil Harding for the immense amount of work that he puts into organising this event each year.

Roy Dyche RIP…

From Justen Dyche
‘I am sorry to report that my Father, Roy Dyche, passed away on Sunday at the age of 76.
Roy was both a pupil and a teacher at the school and I know he had many happy memories of his time at the Harvey. He joined having moved from Derby to Folkestone midway through the 50’s, ending his time as a student as Head Boy in 1961. He went on to study at Keele University and spent time living and teaching in Africa, before returning to the Harvey as an English master for the first half of the ’70s. He took up writing and was a published author; later he taught at both Dover boys and girls grammar schools. In his retirement he worked closely with the charity Bees Abroad, returning to Africa to run a number successful projects to alleviate poverty in Uganda and Zambia. Roy passed away peacefully at the weekend and will be greatly missed by his family and friends’.

John Smith RIP

from John Dennis Chair of Governors, John Batten President of the OHA and Scott Norman Headteacher…
“All will be sad to hear that John Smith, former president of the OHA, died on Sunday, 28th October. John was President of our Association from 1994 to 2006 and continued to stay involved with the school serving as a governor for an unparalelled 27 years and as an ongoing member of the OHA committee. John, a hugely successful local businessman who never fully retired, attended the Harvey from 1946 until 1953 and remembered his favourite subjects as Latin and Gymnastics with the latter being taught by “Killer” Howard. John always spoke of his gratitude for what the Harvey gave him, but that debt was repaid in full many times over with the dedicated service that John gave back. He will be sorely missed by all involved with the school and the OHA.”
